The Staircase

Created April’s solo show at the Saginaw Art Museum this work was site specific to the gallery in the museum. Designed to continue the view from outside to the inside, referencing waves, air currents, birds, or the branches of the bare tree branches. The viewer has to contemplate the fragility of glass hanging in space, including overhead, as they walked under and around the piece. Comprised of over 200 hand-pulled, hot sculpted glass pieces, each piece was sculpted from molten 2000 glass, embodying the fact that glass is not a liquid and not a solid. Unlike any other material on the planet, it is an amorphous solid.
